Zoning Board of Adjustments
The Zoning Board sits as an administrative body and derives it powers directly from the legislature (the legislature provided for boards of zoning adjustment that could determine that in particularly harsh situations the zoning ordinances enacted by the municipality should not be applied literally). This Board is authorized to make proper adjustments to prevent unnecessary hardship by granting variances from the zoning ordinance’s requirements. Its powers cannot be circumscribed, altered, or extended by the municipal governing body.
